Pays Plat First Nation Boardwalk
For those who would just like to have a gentle walk along a wonderful boardwalk that meanders its way through a beautiful boreal forest that is located along a sandy bay on Lake Superior, check out the boardwalk located at Pays Plat.
The boardwalk is located about 10 minutes west on the Trans-Canada Highway in the community of Pays Plat and accessed through the road that runs south from the parking lot at the convenience and gas store. For directions from Rossport click here.
The boardwalk has three portals which go out to the shore of Lake Superior and which provide panoramic views of the "Big Lake".
The boardwalk provides an elevated platform through the woods where the forest floor is carpeted with wildflowers and green moss that rivals the colours seen in Ireland.
The forest that nestles up to the boardwalk is home to a variety of bird species that will serenade you as you walk.
At the third portal, there is access to the lake shore which is sandy.
There are interpretive posters that explain and describe plants that are used by the Indigenous peoples for medicinal purposes.
This is a special place and must be treated with respect by all who visit.
